I went to a couple of quarries in northern Ohio this last weekend and got in some good scuba dives with some friends. About half the group I had met before but met some new friends there as well.

No pictures yet, but I had a blast and will be back again next year.

Ever get the feeling that something bad is about to happen?

The basic gist is that he's getting accepted into an experimental drug therapy program, quite literally as a last resort, because nothing else is working any more and so he sent me an email describing this and asking me to pass it along to the rest of the family. Worst of all, I almost didn't get it since it got caught by my spam filters but I had a gut feeling to check those this evening so I found the email.

If someone who's dying is going to want you to pass something critical along to the rest of the family, a phone call would be nice. Just for future reference anyway.

I'm at home working on a Saturday night trying to finish a project for my previous employer that I should have had done a month ago when I really should be out supporting my community at the Prop 8 rallies.

No matter what, I'm in a bad position.

If I stay home and work I feel like I'm letting an entire community down by not showing what I believe in but, if I go do what I feel is the right thing to do, I screw myself professionally and burn a MAJOR bridge that could keep hurting me for years to come.

Somehow, I keep getting myself into this position and I'm tired of it.

To the Universe, I am not going to do this again. I've had enough of this type of situation. I NEED to be out supporting my community but I CAN'T because of this project from hell. I know that one more voice won't make that much difference, but that's not the point. I believe in the issue VERY STRONGLY so I should be there, but I also believe in keeping promises no matter what so I'm stuck here at home working.

To those on both sides of my personal issue, please try to understand how conflicted I am.

I am not going to use the language that I really want to use here since this is a public forum, but you better believe that if I were saying this over the air, the FCC would have a long list of violations they would want to fine me for. I do NOT appreciate you voting to take away my civil rights for dogmatic reasons.

You voted to put discrimination INTO the constitution and now it will take a 2/3 vote of both the legislature and the people to remove it. Thank you very much for screwing me out of the same happy life that at least half of you have. Since the other half get divorced, it's not like you're doing a great job yourselves.

If you want to discuss it with me, I can do on at great length about how many of the arguments that you are using are the same that were used 40 years ago in the civil rights era.

Remember, separate is NOT equal.

GASP!!!

I still think I'm 19. I'm in excellent overall health. I'm starting a new job Monday. Things are going well.

Let's hope when I turn 80 things are going even better. Then there will be 120, 160, etc. ;-)

For the record, I don't want to live forever, but having faced my own mortality once before, I will happily put off facing it again for, oh, 5 or 6 centuries.

One of the bad things about having founded a company is that I haven't had time for a real vacation for the last few years. I'm sitting at SFO as I type this waiting to board a flight to Toronto for a week of relaxation with some friends there followed by a hockey skills camp over Labor Day weekend.

I told everyone at the office I was going to try to leave by 2:00 but snuck out around 1:00 instead. That way, when they tried to ask me all the questions at 1:55 I was long gone. >:)

Now if I can just get myself to not fire up my CAD tools while I'm gone...

Just before 5:pm today, she passed on at the vet's office. I am now too drunk to type mych more and am now going to pass out for the night. For all those who sent their best wishes, I thank you for your support.

I'm going to miss her.

She's clearly going downhill fast so I fear it may be a matter of hours. Since there are moments that she's not comfortable anymore, I have an appointment at the vet tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 should she still be around.

At least she's getting all the lap time she wants right now. I'm just trying to keep her comfortable.

My last remaining cat, Callie, who is 19+ years old now is not doing well and, I fear, not long of this world.

Considering that, had I not taken her in out of the wild when she was about 9 months old, her life span would likely have only been 2-4 years, I say she did pretty well in this life.

The original thought was that dad was going to be released from the hospital today. That didn't happen but he's almost certain to get out tomorrow. I pushed my flight back to Saturday just in case.

I will say that it will be good to get out of the humidity that is ever present in Houston. I had forgotten how bad it is.

When I was a kid the city built a sporting stadium in an effort to revitalize a part of town. It could be used for ice hockey, (Yes, Houston did have professional hockey for a while) basketball, concerts, etc. I've been to a few concerts there including a really amazing U2 show back in the 80's.

Today I happened to find myself driving past it and happened to glance over. {accent="scooby doo"}Huh??????????????????????{/accent}

When I glanced over at it I would have sworn I saw a word on it that could not possibly be there so I actually turned around to give it another look. Much to my surprise that word was actually there and correct. Here's what it is now... GASP!!!

Somehow I just can't imaging this really being a good thing.

He continues to improve quite rapidly and could be discharged from the hospital as early as tomorrow. In some ways, he's healing faster than I did after my blown spleen 5 years ago which was, in a lot of ways, a similar operation except for different reasons. we will have matching scars now.

The plan is for me to come home Thursday night but I think I'll be making frequent trips to Houston for the next year or so as he continues to recover.
